Family Council

The Sherwood Park Manor Family Council is an organized, self-led, and democratic group dedicated to the family and friends of our residents. Our core mission is to enhance the quality of life and care for every resident through a dedicated commitment to advocacy, communication, education, and support.

We understand that transitioning a loved one into long-term care can be an emotional and overwhelming journey. Whether you are experiencing relief, sadness, or have a mountain of questions, you don’t have to navigate this path alone. As the collective "voice" for families and caregivers, we work in close partnership with the administration to ensure a safe, respectful, and transparent environment.

What we do:

  • Advocate: we advise the home on concerns and make recommendations regarding resident rights and home obligations under the Fixing Long Term Care Act (2021).

  • Support: we provide a safe space for peer support and help you understand what to expect from long-term care.

  • Collaborate: We act as a sounding board for new ideas and attempt to resolve disputes to improve daily life within the home.

Membership is open to all family members, friends, or anyone with a significant connection to a resident. We invite you to join us at our monthly meetings to share your perspective or simply listen.
